This blog is pretty much aimed at anyone interested in social media! I have a number of questions that I would like exploring to help inform my dissertation research. To give more practical relevence, I have chosen to use Vodafone as a case study company. There are six topics for you to discuss in the tabs below, starting with an introduction to social media. The final topic, named 'open' gives you the chance to start your own topic of conversation. Enjoy!

Is this a blog or a questionnaire? Why are there only quesions without any background information to discuss?
ReplyDeleteShouldn't this 'open' section also give us the power to start forums, rather than a single line of continuous text on completely random subjects?
ReplyDeleteI think it would be useful for you to define what social media is, and give practical examples from other companies in terms of the things you are looking for. Because its so broad, do you mean Facebook and Twitter, do you mean customer interaction in other ways? Its perhaps too broad and loose a topic to comment on succintly without giving real life examples of what companies like Voda have done in the past.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your feedback. I have on purpose not given an awful lot of background to allow you as the blogger, greater freedom to say what you feel without having your fantastic insight influenced or affected by background info. If you want to read into some great examples of companies who have really been a success following their use of social media then check out; Lego, Starbucks and Dell as three very good examples. Thank you for your comments, keep them coming
ReplyDeleteMy biggest thought is what will companies do after social media??? i do think that it has become an important part of life (just like emails and mobile phones) but from viewing trends such as the popularity of bebo (now closed) to the rise of facebook (now under greater scrutiny by members) to the overloading of iphone apps...what will companies do to ensure that they stay relevant? is social media enough? and what will come next?
ReplyDeleteps great forum! :D
It would be interesting to look at the growth in social media and how google will be ranking tweets organically on the homepage, as well as the introduction of promoted tweets and the growing power of facebook advertising.
ReplyDeleteWill the next step into paid advertising actual prove to decrease the power of social media?
i don't really have much to add but to say good luck
ReplyDeleteAren't we already just about at saturation point in terms of the social media market? The exponential growth has been fuelled by a mix of greater access to the internet by the wider population, and the right platform coming on stream at the right time (e.g. myspace, blogging, Facebook twitter).
ReplyDeleteThere is going to have to be a very innovative new product on offer to take this media much further than it has already travelled.
The original beauty and attraction of this media was its simplicity. As it gets more and more complicated, becomes awash with targetted advertising and the interface becomes increasingly user-unfriendly, I fear that if anything interest will drop off in the future.
Also as everyone tries to get on the bandwagon with their own versions of the existing market leaders, impact is going to be diluted to an extent that it becomes less and less important.
The social media that get the balance right between simplicity and the right amount of external advertising will be the ones which prosper long term.
Do you feel that Lionel Messi would preform as well if he was minus one leg and one eye?
ReplyDeleteDiscuss.
Good old fashioned TV adverts still appeal to me more or advertising in magazines or newspapers. Im always frightened that if I click one of them links on the right hand side of the screen on facebook something terrible will happen.
