How important is it that the organisations and brands that you affiliate yourself with, have a social media presence?
What is important and not so important for you as a consumer, when looking at an organisations social media strategy? For example, is promotion important or is customer care important or is having something unqiue and a bit different more what you want to see........
This blog is pretty much aimed at anyone interested in social media! I have a number of questions that I would like exploring to help inform my dissertation research. To give more practical relevence, I have chosen to use Vodafone as a case study company. There are six topics for you to discuss in the tabs below, starting with an introduction to social media. The final topic, named 'open' gives you the chance to start your own topic of conversation. Enjoy!
social media is important in terms of the brands that i am a fan of. why, i think it is because i feel closer to them thru social media in comparison to through tv adverts, billboards etc.
ReplyDeletei want to see whacky adverts that get me talking to friends, i don't want the same old corporate bull sh*t
your blog is on vodafone, well i like the voda vids with hamilton and lewis. thats the sort of social media presence that i want to see...
I think social media is one of the best ways for brands to get across to people nowadays. Mainly because it allows people to interact with the brand, give opinions and in some cases receive replys from the brand to see that they take into account the people who appreciate the brand ~ i think to establish a measure of loyalty in a brand this is very important.
ReplyDeleteTo me, I like the fact that brands are now beginning to offer exclusive promotions from social media sites.
I also like how some companies use social media to portray their brand in a different light, for example Ford Ka once ran an ad of the windshield cutting the head off a car ~ something you would never see on t.v. but which appealed to the more loyal followers who use social media.
I think promotion of the brand is always important, however using a more informal social platform to engage with existing customers as a form of customer service, i.e. like Dell do, can be incredibly mutually rewarding.
ReplyDeleteI think that the type of company and industry really does affect my view on brand social media....like do i really need to engage with people about a brand of milk i drink??? no thank you.
ReplyDeletebut i guess for the ones that i do associate with like vodafone, apple, starbucks etc, I think that social media keeps them more relevant in my life and makes me more aware of them and the other members of the community.
Again I think the type of company/industry affects what i expect from them....starbucks is great for promotions about the newest drinks and summer discounts but do i really need to get customer support? In saying that for companies like vodafone it would be integral that customer service is a major part of their media strategy - the best part of social media is the response rate! i don't have to wait on a phone line for ages, listening to some scripted conversation with a person who is clearly bored...i type in my question and within a couple of minutes there will be a response from either the vodafone staff or a smart customer :D
in terms of something unique - i think that's what gets people talking and coming back to the page. I go back to a lot of sites that have fun games to play or funny postings/videos
I find the biggest thing to gain from brands I follow having a social media presence is feeling like my effort to interact with them opens up the opportunity for exclusive offers, discounts, promotions and information.
ReplyDeleteIts probably the only key reason I would follow a brand, unless I had experienced a fault with a product or service and wanted a more reachable point of contact.
I wouldn't say it is important for the brand I affiliate myself with to have an online presence, but as a consumer I do think that social media is a great way to present offers and promotions, and discounts. I would certainly join a facebook group for example if it offered discounts and promotions on a brand I was interested in.
ReplyDeleteIt is important no question. If i go on a social media channel and a brand important to me isnt present whilst a key competitor is, i think...what they up to, don't they care, are they not bothered about me the customer. it is hardly a great effort and everybody now engages on social media so to not be present is a huge loss to the company
ReplyDeleteMegan has probably summed up my feelings on this one!
ReplyDeleteIt depends on how a company wants to be perceived.
ReplyDeleteVodafone is so closely affiliated with social media platforms (as there job is to grant mobile access) that as a customer I would want to see them on these things.
In contrast if I wanted to buy a traditional high end product that strives on an exclusive image(such as pair of Churches shoes) a presence on Facebook would discredit the brand.
I don't think that whether or not a brand had a social media presence would influence whether or not I purchased a product from them. I believe it's beneficial but by no means a prerequisite for success.
ReplyDeleteFor me to make an effort to access a social media stream of a company, I am most likely to want some kind of interaction with them - i.e. an answer to a question on a customer care basis. For example, recently I joined the group of a product I had bought and was able to ask a direct question to them and receive an instantaneous answer.
